I suppose I’d consider myself a fast reader, though definitely not up to those people who read a hundred books or more in a year. On average, it takes me only a few days to read a novel. It hardly ever takes me a week or longer to get through one, though for non-fiction, it’s a different story. And at least to most of my coworkers, I’m a fast reader.
It’s not that I’m racing to read a lot of books in a year, though I do set a goal in mind, but that’s based off the previous year’s reading. I don’t really care how many books I read in a year, as long as they’re good books. Of course, with so many books being published each year, I’m glad that I read more than fifty a year.
The reason I read books quickly is, for the most part, because I’m enjoying the story. When I’m really enjoying a book, I don’t want to put it down, and that results into it only taking a few sittings to get through it all (or in some cases, one sitting). Those are usually the books I’ll put down as my favorites and will recommend to just about anyone. I get that reading a book quickly can mean that you miss some things along the way, but I can’t help myself when the book is that good.
Honestly, I admire people who can slow themselves down to make annotations and notes for reviews. I’ve tried to do this, but I get annoyed by the interruptions. Though if there’s a quote I absolutely love, I will make a note of what page it’s on.
So it’s not so much that I’m a fast reader (which, I am) as to why I read books quickly, but just that if I’m enjoying it… I don’t want to stop reading. And really, who ever does?
I’ve found myself becoming a slower reader over the years and for me its mostly because I genuinely don’t want to rush through a book for the sake of numbers and want to stay with the characters or story longer. But like you also said, if its good, I probably wont put it down and finish it very quickly too. You brought up an interesting discussion T.K., loved reading this! 💕

I’m glad you enjoyed reading it! I’ve tried to slow myself down to enjoy the book but I’m hopeless 😂

That’s awesome! A week is awesome too. I mean, it also all depends on people’s schedule’s. I don’t have kids taking up time, so I have a lot more free time to read than my best friend does.
