Let me say that I am a mood reader, so this is actually sort of a challenge for me to be doing this – making a TBR for the month. However, I have a few books that have a sort-of October vibe that I’d like to get to, and why not actually read them in October? I’m only doing a small TBR so that I can leave some wiggle room for any of my mood reads because I just know there will be one or two books that will push their way up to the top of my overall list.
One of the reasons I wanted to try a TBR for this month is because I usually don’t read any books in October. Weird, but that’s how my stats were the last couple years. I go through a slump in October and just don’t read anything, or maybe only one book. It drives me nuts because I like to always be reading something.
I’m going by my average amount of books I read, which is usually 7-8 per month. Most of my picks aren’t too long, that way the actual TBR won’t feel intimidating. So below I have four books that I definitely want to read this month, and a few “wildcards” that I’d like to read, but are interchangeable with any books I am suddenly in the mood for reading and aren’t planned.
Reputation – Sara Shepard
I found this book by chance at a library a few towns over and it sounded pretty good. I liked the Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists series on TV (sad that it got cancelled) and this book sounds pretty similar to that show, so I figured I’d give it a shot.
Murder on the Orient Express – Agatha Christie
I’m still new to the Queen of Mystery, but I hear a lot of good things about this book in particular, so I figured I’d give it a shot during spooky/mystery season.
Heist Society – Ally Carter
Last year I tried reading this but ended up DNF-ing it because I wasn’t in the right mood. I’m pretty sure I had been in a slump and this one just wasn’t the right fit for the time. However, I like the premise of the story and Ally Carter’s Gallagher Girls series, so I am definitely willing to give this a second shot (plus, it’s an ILL from the library so I want to read it before it’s due back, haha).
Eliza and Her Monsters – Francesca Zappia
I remember loving this book when it came out and I know it doesn’t really fit in with spooky season, but I think a reread will help with my usual October slump. I’m just hoping that I love it as much the second time around.
WILD CARD TBR
Quests for Glory – Soman Chainani
The fourth book in the School for Good and Evil series. The color of the cover is very autumn-like, so it’d be a good read for October, plus the fantasy/magic factor. However, I’m weird with reading fantasy books because I need to be in the right mood for it, which is why this one is a wild card.
Ten After Closing – Jessica Bayliss
A hostage situation kind of sounds like a good book for October, however each time I think I’m going to make this my next book, I choose something else. I will get to this eventually though (maybe even this month!).
When We Were Strangers – Alex Richards
I got this book a month or two ago from winning a giveaway and I haven’t started it yet. Although that’s not unusual at all, but I would like to read that book sooner rather than later because it just sounds really good.
Emancipated – M.G. Reyes
I’ve had this book on my Nook for a few years now and as with all my ebooks, I forget that I have it. Though when I reread the synopsis a while ago, I bumped it up on my priority list, and despite the mixed reviews, I’m definitely excited to read this one. Personally, I think I’ll like this book.
As I said, I’m a huge mood reader so we’ll see how well I can actually follow my TBR here. I’m hoping to at least stick to those top four and if I do, I’ll be happy because that would be an accomplishment for me! I never even stick to a TBR list of books I’d like to read by year’s end.
