Meet the Blogger

I’ve been blogging on here for a little over two years now. I’ve had other blogs before, but they were more random, day-to-day sort of posts with some bookish things thrown in. But once I came up with this username, Genie in a Novel, as an alias for a library blog I started with a co-worker, I knew I had to create a blog specifically for this name. My only regret is not thinking of it sooner and growing my base on this blog, rather than on two others that gained some traction, but not that much.

So, a little bit of a formal introduction….

You can call me T.K. as opposed to “Genie” as people did for a while before I started putting up my nickname here. It’s not a nickname I use often, but for blogging purposes, why not? Though if people still feel weird just using my initials, Tabitha also works, as I got that name for my birthday.

I’m a librarian at my hometown library, and it’s been the best job I’ve had in my life. It’s frustrating at times, but I still wouldn’t trade it at this moment. Unfortunately, I don’t get paid to read all day (and yes, some people still think this is what being a librarian is *eye roll*) and there is just as much work drama as there is any other place. But there’s also been some funny things that I feel would only happen at the library as you can read about on my post, Weird Happenings at the Library.

And, of course, you can learn more on my About Me page.

The Tag:

I wasn’t tagged by anyone to do this, but I’ve been meaning to do a “Meet the Blogger” for a while, and a tag just gives me the questions to answer.

The Rules:

  • Nominated bloggers can nominate ten other bloggers.
  • Use the same questions from the tag.
  • Tag the original creator and the blogger who tagged you

Meet the Blogger

Who is your all-time favorite book character?

I have to say Theodore Finch is one of my favorites, and the first one who comes to mind. All the Bright Places is one of my favorite books and his character is someone I definitely would’ve fell for as a teenager like Violet did. He was sweet and caring, and yeah, he dealt with bipolar disorder, but that didn’t keep him from being an essentially amazing guy.

If you were stranded on a desert island, which book would you take with you? (Survival books do not count)

It would have to be a favorite that I wouldn’t mind reading over and over… so probably Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

What’s your most unpopular book opinion?

I’m not sure if I have one. It seems like my opinions are usually in line with other opinions or at least ones that have a 50/50 split.

What’s your weirdest bookish habit?

I’m not really sure, again. I feel like any of my quirks are shared with a few other bloggers. Maybe that I keep a book inventory spreadsheet for the books I own and track my percentage of read vs. unread books that I own.

What character would you bring to a family event as your fake partner?

Fred Weasley. It would be a blast.

What made you decide to start a book blog?

I was starting to blog a lot about books on my previous blog, which was a general lifestyle(ish) blog, so when I thought of the name, Genie In A Novel, I just decided to start over with a new blog just for bookish things and book reviews.

What about reading and books do you love the most?

Being able to be in another world for a while. Even if it’s in New York City or some small town. It’s an escape and a chance to live vicariously through other characters and go through their adventures and heartbreak and whatever else they go through. It’s an experience and it fuels my imagination, which I need to live through the stressful parts of life. And I just enjoy it. Plain and simple.

What is your field of study/desired profession/current profession?

I am currently a librarian in my hometown library. I graduated in 2019 with a Master’s in Library and Information Science, and before that I got a Bachelor of Arts in Communication (2015). I’m living my dream job right now (though I wouldn’t mind being higher up on the pyramid someday, not a director though… just a head supervisor). Someday though I’d like to open up my own bookstore.

What are some book recommendations that became your favorites/obsessions?

I loved The Outsiders when it was recommended to me by a co-worker. Another one is The School for Good and Evil Series, as well as the Left Behind series. I never would’ve read Left Behind if my mom hadn’t told me how much she loved the books.

What is the book you shove down everyone’s throat?

Hacking Harvard by Robin Wasserman. I just love it.

Who do you tag?

Anyone who wants to do this tag! If you do it from my post, I’d love to see your answers!

I have to admit Genie in a Novel is what caught my eye at first. I’m new to blogging and it’s been fun discovering the blogosphere. I wanted to be a librarian, but “life” got in the way at a young age. This was back in the Dewey Decimal System days. I retired and now have the time to write. I really enjoy reading your blog for lots of reasons. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! I was so happy when I realized that name hadn’t been taken for a domain or username. We still use the DDS for non-fiction, and I remember one of my classes had us learn the basic categorizations of it. I’m glad to hear you enjoy my blog! Thanks! 😊
