Well, I guess it was inevitable… I finally hit a reading slump for 2021. A real one. I’ve had minor ones over the spring/summer, when I was highly addicted to Glee (progress: still am because fanfiction), but this is the real deal. I’ve started several books and couldn’t get past the first chapter because my mind was wandering so much. I have been able to read two books, and I’m close to finishing my third for this month, but I did take a week off from reading as nothing interested me enough.
Although I have a November TBR of books I wanted to get to this month, when I try to actually read them I just can’t get into them. I’ve only been able to read two from my eight books, so I guess that’s something. But they’re also books from my “wild card” TBR which were the ones I deemed interchangeable if I felt like doing so.
It’s starting to feel like I might be pulling out of it a little, but I think I’m going to resort to rereading a favorite book for my next read, just to finish getting me out of this hole. It’s my go-to method for slumps and I have several go-to books for this method.
My Go-To Books to Get Me Out of a Reading Slump
- any Harry Potter book (because, duh)
- Lola and the Boy Next Door
- Time Bomb (already reread this year)
- Flipped
- The Isle of the Lost
- The Mistletoe Promise
A few other methods I like to use, or usually suggest to others going through a reading slump are listed on a post I wrote about two years ago – 10 Ways to Overcome a Reading Slump. My most used one of the other methods is probably reading fanfiction or changing the format (which I haven’t done yet). I have been reading a lot of fanfiction lately, and what’s ironic is that I think this time, fanfiction is the reason I’m not reading as many books. Oh well, they can’t all be foolproof methods.
Guess I’ll be trying the rereading or different format options next.
Reading slumps suck! My two go-to books for reading slumps are Fangirl and Turtles All the Way Down!
Hope you get out of the slump soon!

Oh noo! This was me throughout the summer. I couldn’t get into anything. The Christmas in July on Hallmark was probably the reason…or at least added to it. I found a few Christmas cozy mysteries and that seemed to help. I hope your reread works!!

Sorry about your reading slump, hope you are able to get out of it soon! Ooh, yes, rereading favorites definitely helps for me too (especially Agatha Christie books since they’re so addicting), and also audiobooks. Hope your rereads help!

I’m hoping it’s over soon. My TBR pile is taunting me 😂

Harry Potter, Hardy Boys, and Holes are my go-to books/series for getting myself out of a slump. All favorites from the younger days of reading.
